February 2015 Updates

The dry season is ending in South Sudan and students are returning to Marial Bai Secondary School for the new academic year. On February 2nd, 450 students will be returning to MBSS ready to learn! A fresh year brings new challenges for our students as they tackle tough subjects and learn new skills that will carry them to success in the future.

The VAD Foundation needs all the help it can get to continue to offer our scholars a high quality education. Last year, many of you stepped up to become a student sponsor. By giving $21/month, you help offset the cost of food, basic needs for boarding students, mentorship programs for girls and classroom materials for our each of the MBSS students. Our amazing student sponsors from December and January have contributed enough to support 60% of our female students enrolled and 16% of our male scholars, but we still need help!

Visit our "Take Action" page to make a difference in the 2015 school year in Marial Bai. We are asking you as a member of the VAD Foundation Family to make a contribution of $21 a month for one year or a single donation of $252 to support a student for a year. By making this commitment you are providing one student with proper nutrition and school supplies for 2015 and joining the other compassionate leaders who have already made the decision to sponsor an MBSS Student.

After the most recent conflict, it is estimated that only 3% of high school aged students are enrolled in school, down from 5% in 2012. It is imperative that we continue to serve as many students as possible for progress and peace throughout the region.

We would also like to remind you all that on February 27th we will be hosting an auction and reception in partnership with HOPE for Ariang and the Canvas Peace Project. The event will be hosted at Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda, CA. We will be hosting an auction of art inspired by South Sudan to benefit education and women’s projects. Tickets to this event are limited, please reserve your space!

Many Thanks,

The VAD Foundation
